Example: 50 boxes on a 48 × 40 pallet.

With 16 × 12 × 12 inch cartons, no spacing and no empty edge, the planner combines two upright orientations to fit 10 boxes per layer. A 6-inch pallet base and 72-inch total height allow five complete layers: 10 × 5 = 50 boxes. A uniform 3 × 3 layout fits 45 instead. Compare the drawing, then confirm weight and stacking strength.

48 × 40 is a starting point, not a guarantee.

The 48 × 40 inch footprint is widely used in the United States. Real pallets can differ by design, condition and usable top surface. Measure the pallet you will load whenever the count is operationally important.

Enter the dimensions in the correct order.

1. Pallet length and width: begin with 48 and 40 inches or enter a custom footprint.
2. Box length, width and height: measure the outside of the packed carton.
3. Pallet base and total height: confirm whether your limit includes the pallet.
4. Order quantity: see full pallets and the final partial pallet.
5. Optional space: include gaps and an empty edge only when required.

Why the drawing matters.

Two boxes with the same area can produce different layer counts because their edges divide into 48 and 40 differently. The planner compares two upright 90-degree orientations and shows occupied and unused positions instead of returning an unexplained number.

A geometric fit does not certify the load. Confirm box compression strength, payload, stability, overhang, securement, fork access, door clearance and receiver requirements before shipping.
